In this whirlwind world of the film and production industry, sleep often gets pushed to the bottom of the to-do list. But for us, the creative women who orchestrate the magic behind the scenes, from directing and producing to editing, a good night's sleep is the secret ingredient in our creative potion.

Embrace a Nightly Ritual for Dreamland and Creativity

As the sun dips below the horizon and the busy set quiets down, I take a few moments to unwind. Acknowledging the day's ups and downs, I make peace with the day, letting go of any lingering stress. Gratitude is essential here; I jot down a quick gratitude list, which works wonders in calming my mind.

Personal Spa Night

Then comes the fun part: my at-home spa night! A steaming hot foot bath infused with lavender or eucalyptus oil transforms my space into a tranquil oasis. After soaking away the day's hustle and bustle, I pamper my tired feet with a luxurious massage using almond or castor oil. This small indulgence goes a long way in melting away the tension of relentless filming schedules and tight deadlines.

Digital Detox

Switching off all electronic devices and the TV at least 1.5 hours before sleep has been a game-changing habit for me. This digital detox keeps my mind from racing and allows me to start unwinding naturally. Since implementing this routine, I have been sleeping better and feeling less anxious.

Visualizing Success and Deep Breathing

Snuggled under the covers, I prep for a fantastic day ahead. I visualize my next day's projects unfolding smoothly, which fills me with a surge of optimistic energy. Following this, deep breathing—slow, calming inhales and exhales—sometimes paired with affirmations like "I am relaxed, I am calm, I am well-rested," helps lull me into a state of pure bliss.

Create the Perfect Sleep Environment

Creating the right sleep environment is key, especially for those of us who deal with unpredictable schedules and hours on set. My room is a haven of darkness—perfect for maximizing melatonin production (our sleep hormone). If complete darkness isn't possible, an eye mask is my trusty sidekick.

Aim for 7 Hours of Sleep

I've been aiming for at least 7 hours of sleep each night, knowing that 7.5 to 8 hours is the magic zone for our brains to detox and recharge. These hours wake us up as brand-new versions of ourselves, ready to tackle our creative projects with renewed vigor!
